Re: Fake Orders of Labor Glory

The best answer is "as much as you feel comfortable paying".

Some folks would pay more than others and some dealers may want more than anyone is willing to pay but £X or £XXX doesn't mean much if it is making you uncomfortable.

Hey guys, a new member here. I recently purchased this order from a reputable eBay seller, but I want to see what you think. I tend to get paranoid without some kind of reassurance :)

Here is another photo, a bit more close-up. The hammer and sickle do look a bit shinier than the wheat area, but I don't think they're different coatings, the wheat just seems to be dirtied up a bit more. Hopefully the picture will help clear things up :)

Re: Fake Orders of Labor Glory

I'm going to guess here, hopefully someone else can say if i'm right or not.

I think it looks good and like a Variation 2?

Out of curiosity, the Hammer and sickle in the middle is very bright, is this made of a different metal to the wheat?

Then again on a second look, is it an altered OLG3?

This is too hard for me!

I think i need to hit the books a bit more haha.

Meanwhile i got new pictures of the order and the enemal is darker then the first pics suggest, seems to be a matter of the light.

Meanwhile I also found pictures of an authentic 1st class that has a very close-by serial and the style of the making of the numbers looks very much alike, giving me more hope that this order really is authentic, too.
I wish I could help but I've no experiance with 1st or 2nd OLGs. And our regular experts seem to be on hiatus at the moment.

The H&S should be gilded (silver) on a OLG2 but ungilded on a OLG3. 3/3s(100%) of the six wheat stalks should be gilded on a OLG2 but only 2/3s(67%) (the outer two on each side) on a OLG3

There's the rub; it's so easy to add a little gilding and some colored enamel to a OLG3 and make it something it should not be.
And that's why I have only a OLG3 in my collection. That, and spendin' cabbage. :)

You seem very certain, thanks for putting my mind at ease. I had a feeling it would be either real or the most elaborate fake. :)
