That is a 'late' issue officers hat... large insignia, golden cap band, large crown. Enlisted hats are smaller and have a plastic chinstrap.

I am not 100% sure, but it looks so "big" that I think it is OK, ie. a officers hat. The enlisted hats had a "smaller" appearance.

Check otu this site, a lot of info on the Soviet art of cap designs =)

http://www.undertheredstar.com/

EDIT: Hmm... after checking the site, I am no longer sure myself... I have always had the impression, that the officers caps were somewhat "larger", at least during the period that the actual cap comes from...

I know this very good site but the EM and off "oliv-brown" caps are so close looking that I cannot make the diff. (I mean if you do not include insignia)

What you have pictured there is an Officer's service cap with the wrong cap badge. The service cap badge was the simpler oval badge with no leaves (the oval centre peice of the cap badge shown. The badge shown on the cap here is a parade cap badge worn with the wave green parade cap worn by officers.
The enlisted man's cap did indeed have a smaller crown (from 1970) and displayed the familiar red star and wreath. This also doubled up as the parade cap for enlisted men.
I wouldn't buy this cap - I would wager that it is post 1991.

...as for the crown size enlisted men's caps had smaller crowns, easily identifiable when compared with officers. Also, they were not as "raised" as officer's caps.
