Sino-Soviet Border Conflict 1969.

March of 1969 china and soviet union had a little war at zhengbao island.
at last chinese army take back one soviet's tank T -62 from soveit's army.
defence chinese island sucess.

today i find a stamp about this war in my book. does soviet union have some stamp about this war?

A very interesting (and poorly documented) moment indeed. I have seen both Soviet and Mongolian gallantry decorations for that intense border conflict.

I haven't found a Soviet commemorative stamp for this conflict although the soviets did issue over 6000 different stamps between 1917 and 1991. Strangely enough I've been scanning some soviet stamps today.

I know that in the US, unless you focus in on Soviet studies, you won't get even an adequate education regarding the Soviet Union, but just how small was this "little war" to merit a stamp in China, but no mention in nearly any history book written in English?

The conflict over island Damansky is well known in Russia. A song performed by Iosif Kabzon and a poem written by Vladimir Visotskiy have been dedicated to this incident. A documentary on this confrontation is viewable on youtube. Gen. (later Marshal of Armored Troops) Losik gave an order to deploy Grad (Hale) multiple rocket launchers. Forum members can imagine what this more modern version of Katyusha did to its opponents :) To my knowledge, Damansky Island conflict was the last battle for which Order of Glory was awarded. Thank you for the information. I remember an old conversation in which I did say that OG were issued for conflicts later than WW2, as I did know that some were issued for the Demansky Island incident, but I was very flately rebuked then :rolleyes:

By the way, do you know of any concrete source in which these appear?

Do you have any numbers on the numbered orders? As those of us with 1969 issued orders will most likely have catch-ups and not one of the few dozen for this combat operation.

I couldn't find a reference to a primary source. Google search resulted in newspaper and memorial articles.

These sources state that V. Shulbaev (Вениамин Шулбаев) and A. Kamzalakov (Александр Камзалаков) were awarded Glory for Damansky battles.
