Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service

I have never seen '8s' stamped that way before, especially the second one that looks like two '0s' were stamped to make an 8. I'd steer clear, the poor numbering is enough to make me question authenticity.

Not even close. This was probably something like a 3M s/n and the forger removed the serial number and ended up with this abortion.

BTW, notice that the entier reverse was polished, not just the serial number area.

Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service

Hallo.
Here is my suspicious Combat Service medal. I have noticed that it is significantly thinner then others I have (~0.3mm).
I hope these scans will help to draw some conclusion about this item.
Thank you

sergio

Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service

sergio, medals with these higher serial numbers are thinner. That is correct.

regards
Andreas

Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service

Andreas, I compared the medal with other two that I presume are more recent (one has no S/N, the other is in the order of 2.3k). These are thicker than the first one.

ciao.

Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service

Sergio - you can't really compare the thicknesses of a 2.3 mil (I assume that's what you meant, unless you are lucky enough to have something in the 2,300 range!) or no-# CSM with a 400K CSM. That just won't work. You've got to compare it with others fairly close in number to evaluate thickness.

Re: Fake Medals for Combat Service

Of course, the serial number of my "reference" medal is 2.3M. Sorry for the confusion.
Beside the thickness, what do you think of the medal? It is OK?
The seller urges for a feedback.....
