Fighters And Friends Of The Spanish Republic 1936-1939 Medal "For Spanish Freedom".
I found these interesting German medals. I have not seen them for sale yet. No reverse of either of these two.

I think these Medals were instituted by the Kämpfer und Freunde der Spanischen Republik 1936-1939 (KFSR) organisation for the 70th aniversary of the forming of the International Brigade.
The ribbon colours are the same as the GDR Hans Beimler Medal with the German and Spanish Republican flags represented. Three Ex Inter Brigade members Kurt Goldstein, Kurt Lohberger und Pilar Mendiburu recived the Gilt version on 30th September at the festivities in the Kino Babylon, Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Berlin-Mitte. Regards Eddie. The Medals were issued in September 2006

The same award was also issued as a table medal

I don't think this is a Spanish award, isn't it an unofficial German award. Maybe this thread should be moved into that category?

Good point Ed, but these are not DDR awards...
They look similar to some fantasy medals produced (in Germany ?) : for example, below is a "50 Years of the NVA" medal (2006). They didn't even use a DDR suspension, but a modern Russian one... Similar to the one posted at the beginning of the thread... Where to put them ? Ch. |

Re: Fighters And Friends Of The Spanish Republic 1936-1939 Medal "For Spanish Freedom
Well unless a BRD section is formed they do not really belong any any section we have right now :)
They are not really fantasy piecies either, they were or are issued to the few remaining living ''Spanienkämpfer'' and maybe relatives by the Kämpfer und Freunde der Spanischen Republik 1936–1939 e. V. (KFSR) which is a club formed in Berlin 2001. As Ed said, unofficial German award would be correct. Regards Eddie

Re: Fighters And Friends Of The Spanish Republic 1936-1939 Medal "For Spanish Freedom
If we have a post-DDR we MUST have a Pre-DDR... Then we can get all our Iron Crosses and Knight's Crosses and all the great SS-Uniforms we all have stashed away that have been "liberated".
All those awards for the 1870-1 war would look fantastic next to a Red Banner Of Labour...... And since the Ottoman Empire and Austro-Hungarian Empire broke up into Communist states later in their existence we need an Imperial Austrian and Ottoman Section and if there is Ottoman we need Turkey and Greece. We could go on forever..... This particular thread is in the Spanish Republic section due to the fact that is it Sympatico with the Spanish Republic and is also from a nation that will not be covered by this forum..
