Moving forward a generation - here is his Daughter Tanja at the age of 17 in 1969. Ironically her polytechnic results show her poorest subject is maths.

The medal for Combat Merits
Performing the duties of a senior paramedic of artillery batallion during the battles at Stalingrad and Don fronts, she has shown herself industrious and competent. Being in battery combat formations, she promptly provided medical assistance to the wounded soldiers and commanders, and promptly evacuated them to the field hospital.
Many times she has also provided a very effective assistance to the soldiers and commanders during enemy air raids. She was shell-shocked, but stayed at her combat post.

Since the formation of the 49th Roslavl division the continuous combat activities of military paramedic of 121 Separate Fighting-Anti-tank artillery battalion Smirnova A.V. have begun.
During her stay in the rank of second Lieutenant of medical service Smirnova proved courageous, extremely conscientious care provider. Repeatedly there were cases when Smirnova under artillery and mortar fire, regardless of the danger to her life, carried out the wounded from the battlefield and immediately provided medical assistance.
Thanks to her care of the sanitary and hygienic state of artillery battalion, there were no any severe infectious diseases in the battalion. She provided medical assistance to the sick, and thanks to her dedicated and energetic work, the staff of the battalion didn’t leave the unit, that contributed to the combat readiness of the artillery battalion. Comrade Smirnova’s kind-heartedness and her care of every private, sergeant and the officer ensures the timely prevention of the spread of diseases, pediculation and other unsanitary things. Her two-year service at the front and exceptionally courageous and conscientious work deserves a government award - the order of the Red Star.

Time takes its toll on all of us. The previous "recycled" photograph comes from a 1960 dated booklet, when he was 20. This "time aged" photograph is from an award of a Title in 1971 at the age of 42. A large sporting awards group I have been slowly reuniting. A Title, 4 Medals and an Identification so far.
