The Socialist Soviet Republic Of Belarus (Савецкая Сацыялiстычная Рэспублiка Беларусь) was founded on 31st July 1920 resulting from the complicated political situations created by the Great War, April and October Revolutions, Treaty Of Brest Livotsk, Polish-Soviet War and a previous failed SSR of Belorussia. The SSR of Belorussia became a founding republic of the Union Of Soviet Socialist Republics (Саюз Савецкіх Сацыялістычных Рэспублік) on its creation on 30th December 1922. On the adoption of a new constitution on 11th April 1927 it was renamed the Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (Беларуская Савецкая Сацыялістычная Рэспубліка) in line with Soviet Union naming conventions.
During the Great Patriotic War the entirety of the Belorussian SSR was occupied by Greater German forces and the administration of the territories of the Belorussian SSR was split between Reichskommissariat Ostland, Reichskommissariat Ukraine and Military occupation. During this time most of the nation was systematically destroyed and large groups of partisans were very active in the remote wooded areas of the nation and coordinated from Moscow. The amount of Belorussian history created during the Great Patriotic War is extremely significant significant including the awarding of the "Hero" titles to Minsk (Мінск) and Brest Fortress (Брэсцкая крэпасць). The Belorussian SSR spent more time in enemy hands than any other of the SSRs and was also a founding member of the United Nations.

The Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic was renamed the Republic Of Belarus (Рэспубліка Беларусь) on 19th September 1991 and was granted independence from the Soviet Union on 25th December 1991. The constitution of the Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic remained in place until 15th March 1994.
