This is the Information/Queries thread relating to all things Kazakh SSR. The Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic (Қазақ Кеңестік Социалистік Республикасы) was elevated from the position of Kazakh Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (Қазақ Автономиялы Социалистік Кеңестік Республикасы, Қазақстан) of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (Ресей Кеңестік Федерациялық Социалистік Республикасы) to a Republic of the Union Of Soviet Socialist Republics (Советтік Социалистік Республикалар Одағы) on 5th December 1936. The Kazakh SSR was not invaded during the Great Patriotic War but did make significant contributions to manpower and materiel supply. The Kazakh SSR was developed significantly during the Virgin Lands Campaign of the 1950s under Party First Secretary Of The Communist Party Of The Kazakh SSR Leonid Brezhnev and also played an important role in the Cold War and Space exploration with the construction of Scientific-Research Test Range №5 (later known as Baikonur).
The Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic was renamed the Republic Of Kazakhstan (Қазақстан Республикасы) on 10th December 1991 and was granted independence from the Soviet Union on 25th December 1991. The constitution of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic remained in place until 30th August 1995.
