I. Brief description of personal feat or merits

In the advancing battle on 18-19 January 1943 Comrade PANCHENKO manifested courage and bravery in the fight against the German Invaders.

During the conquest of an unknown height by our unit, PANCHENKO bravely went into the attack carrying along with himself the rest of the soldiers and with his gun's sharp fire he hit the enemy and in the course of one day neutralized 8 Romanian soldiers. He deserves to be awarded with the Medal "For Bravery".

That should probably read 109 Guards Rifle Division, I don't think that number existed as a brigade.

Well spotted Paul! I guess another example of an administrative error. I checked the original document and it does have the br abbreviation.

The 109 GRD was formed from the 6 GRB and 9 GRB in July(?) 1943.
