Red Banner of Labor

This is my Red Banner of Labor Order, second type (Cyrillic inscription). Serial number is very low (50), i believe was awarded in early period after second world war (probably '45). Can you confirm? Regards
Simo

Re: Red Banner of Labor

Welcome to the forum. This isn't my field of expertise, but I can say that it is in extraordinarily good shape. It is definitely a pre-1970 version and if the serial number is authentic - and I have no reason to doubt it from what I can see - then there is a good chance it was made in 1945. In my opinion, Mongolian awards - especially early ones - had some of the best enamel work of any country (sometimes even more impressive than their Soviet counterpart awards).

Excellent photographs, by the way.:thumbsup

I'm sure one of our resident Mongolian experts would love to see this one.

Re: Red Banner of Labor

Carrying on from the earlier piece of the thread on this order -- http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...vil-valor.html -- the Order of the Red Banner of Labor was introduced in 1945.

Type 1 -- Screwback, ~ 4000 awarded, 1940 arms -- Battushig A27

Type 1.1 -- depression in central reverse -- observed serial number range Low = 7/High = 3165

Type 1.2 -- no depression -- observed serial number range Low = 1856/High = 3947

As there is no coherent block of serial numbers between these two sub-varieties, I see them as no more than manufacturing variability.

Examples of both types are shown below.

First, a type 1.1, #1423, awarded to Dagvasurengiin Jigmiddorj, 24 December 1959. (Not great scans, sorry.)

Re: Red Banner of Labor

In 1971, the badge was transformed from a screwback badge to a pinback form. According to Urnukh's researches, the first order for badges 4001-5000 was placed in May 1971 and a second order for numbers 5001-6000 came in April 1980.

Type 2.1 -- pinback, silver, 1960 arms -- observed serial number range Low = 4001/High = 7020 (dubious?) -- Battushig #28.1

As an example, #5050, awarded 9 September 1981.

Re: Red Banner of Labor

In 2004, as a step toward post-socialist budget-cutting, these badges, like other Mongolian awards, were changed from silver to brass (or a brass-like substance). It is not believed that these have been awarded, and that the last of the silver badges are still being distributed, but these have been manufactured and are held in stock. Both numbered and unnumbered items have "leaked" onto the market. I do not have a brass version, but I have seen them and they are really, really ugly beasts.

Type 3.1 -- pinback bronze, numbered -- reported serial number range Low = 9050/High = 9060 -- Battushig A28.2

Type 3.2 -- pinback bronze, not numbered, unawarded escapee?
-- Battushig A28.2

Re: Red Banner of Labor

And, as a bit of a postscript, the metal and cloth ribbon bars for this order.

And the order in wear.

Re: "Red Banner Of Labour" Order.

Greetings all, it has been quiet in this thread for a good decade. Lol.

I just bought a new ORBLV T4V1. The order is in excellent condition...no rattle as sometimes develops. The serial is pretty low #384.

Cheers,
Will
