Badge "Excellent People's Education".
Hi folks,
Bought this badge in Tashkent yesterday. Amazingly heavy with what appears to be three-piece welded construction. Seller claims it is a Ukrainian deputies badge, but I am pretty sure that it isn't. Anyone enlighten me? Shiva |

I'm not at all sure what the Ukrainian badge is supposed to represent - the open book is only as small part at the bottom.:confused:
Here are the latest additions to my "Excellence in People's Education" awards. First is the Ukrainian badge but Type 2 (the other is Type 3 - pinback). I haven't found another ID booklet for this one yet. Phillip

OK. The following are the "Excellence in Public Education" I have from Ukraine with a couple of booklets - one from 1960 and the other from 1965 with very different covers though both are post-NKs.
All but the first one are pinback. More importantly, it has a smooth reverse as above. I'm not sure about this, but at least the RSFSR badges like these when the NKs were still issuing them were considerably larger than the later ones. All the ones I have are the same size, but each one is different from the others in some way - either color of the enamel variations or the "Lviv" mark on the reverse of the third one pictured. The quality (or the lack thereof) of the white enamel is evident in the fourth one pictured.

This is perhaps the oldest one. The white enamel is pitted all over the obverse. The brass is considerably thicker than the others and is more "flat" than the first one (see side view comparisons).
