Re: Numerical list
He said from this page (SMAP)
Mondvor says: "On the whole, during entire history of existence of the USSR, the Titles of Hero of Socialist Labor were honored more than 19 thousand people. More than 160 people are rewarded with medal “sickle and hammer” twice. Sixteen people became three times Heros of Socialist Labor. " I don't know how to add that up. I'd guess it would have to be, basically, 19,000+ .

Re: Numerical list
That is interesting! Would be nice to know where Art got that figure which is much more accurate that the one that Mondvor has!

Re: Numerical list
To give this some context these are some numbers from the German list.
The German Iron Cross 2nd Class was awarded about 5 million times and the War Merit Cross, 2nd Class with swords over 6 million. The Soviet Red Star order was awarded more 2.7 million times during the war, the Bravery Medal was awarded 4.5 million times and the Combat Service Medal maybe 3 million times during the war. The Iron Cross 1st class was awarded 450,000 times. War Merit Cross, 1st Class with swords almost 500,000 times. The OPW1 was awarded 344,000 times The Order of Lenin was awarded 430,000 times but that's not stricktly a military award. (Not to mention for mostly different circumstanses) The Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross was awarded about 7,200 times. Khmelnitsky 3rd Class was awarded aboot 5,700 times. The Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves was awarded about 850 - 900 times. The Kutuzov 1st class was awarded about 675 times The Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords was awarded about 160 times. The Knight's Cross to the War Merit Cross was awarded about 210 times. The Ushakov Order, 2nd Class was awarded 194 times. The Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds was awarded 27 times. The Ushakov Order, 1st Class was awarded 47 times. These numbers are somewhat deceiving as the German awards stopped in May 1945 and the Soviet numbers continued until 1992. But....

Re: Numerical list
People,
I was looking into this again and I do not understand the OBK3 figure. Mondvor says 9890, EoW says 9039, why did we say 5700? Thanks a lot, Marco

Re: Numerical list
Are we talking about The award of Bogdan Khmelnitskiy III class?
Mondvor says 5738 The Red Book says 5522 And Echoes shows a number 9039 which I think is an anomaly since the next highest number is 5809. Why did I pick 5700 specifically? It's kind of rounded off in the general area where I think the truth lies. But of course I could be wrong. I often am. In the Echoes case I think the number 9038 could be an error, or an award just grabbed at random out of the State Mint's vaults. I have no info to back this up but I think the Soviet government minted an specific number of ODMs and in some cases (perhaps this one) the number of actual awards was well lower than the number minted.

Re: Numerical list
Hi Eric,
Yes I was talking about Bogdan Khmelnitskiy. I see where you get the number of figures, what I usually do is to check the maximal known example :) So, at mondvor, I see 9890 at - 3 (Observed minimal number 3203 - maximal 9890). The Red Book says 9837 and shows an example of 9039 at page 121. And EoW we said already. So, shall we say 5738 awarded, but 9890 minted? Thanks, Marco

Re: Numerical list
Marco,
It is more complex than that, and not only for the OBK3. The mint was not necessarily following a strict sequential numbering pattern; some SN ranges were skipped, etc. For example, the OSuvorov3 has been issued 4012 times, although SN range from 1 to 12245; that does not necessarily mean that over 12,000 orders were ever prepared.
