MVD School/Academy Badges.
I start this thread (which I expect to be very long) for reference images and some background when possible on the badges themselves. If there is no objection, I would also like to include some of the very early post-1991 badges that simply changed the Soviet seal with the RF eagle and for the most part that was it.
If anyone thinks that any badge in this thread might be or certainly is a fake/fantasy, please let me know. First, I'll post some MVD Military-Political universities. According to my understanding of Rogov's History of Awards and Insignia of Russian MVD, 1802 - 2002 The MVD Высшего Политического Училища VPU was not the same as the military political school (which had the same initials) after the late 1960s-1971. During the time before the first graduations from these MVD "Higher Political Schools" in 1971, each school developed its own commemorative graduation badge that was also worn by the faculty and staff of each school. I can't tell from Rogov's book which of these badges goes with which school, so any help would be appreciated. None of the ones I have have any mint marks and only the first one has a LMD screw plate so I'm guessing they were mostly special commissions. I'm also not 100% sure about the third one - it looks too new. The 2nd I bought in Moscow (not at a market). Phillip

Re: MVD and Militia badges Including academies
And the next set: the two with that were obviously schools in Leningrad are referred to as the "Highest Political Academy" by some others, but Rogov has them all together on one page and under one description.
(I have my doubts about the authenticity of the third for the same reasons in the previous post about its "newness.") Phillip

MVD School/Academy Badges
Here's an MVD Academy graduate badge from '74-'91. Leningrad mint mark on the badge's back; unoriginal tightening wheel.

Re: MVD School/Academy Badges
An MVD Highest Political Academy commemorative badge '70's-'80's. Most examples of this badge that I have seen are of light alloy and paint. This example, however, is made of brass and with hot enamel. May be an early example of the badge. No maker's mark; Pobeda factory tightening wheel.

Re: MVD School/Academy Badges
Another commemorative school badge, the 40th Anniversary of Tallin Police School from 1984. Brass, hot enamel but no mint mark. Also, a much smaller mounting screw.

Re: MVD School/Academy Badges
Another badge in the same vein as the last, also of brass and hot enamel but without mint mark and with a smaller screw. This is a commemorative badge of the military/political school (VPU) from, I suspect, the mid '80's.

Re: MVD School/Academy Badges.
I believe it to be a post-Soviet fantasy production. For one the screwback plate is not Soviet and the overly large presentation with the thin screwpost don't make a lot of sense. The absence of a mintmark is not a guarantee, but also suspicious.

Re: MVD School/Academy Badges.
Thank you so much for this information. I thought it might be a hat badge as like you said, it has a really thin post. Ok, thanks again!!
