"Military Merit Red Banner" Order.
In this picture, of national hero Lodongiin Dandar, taken in the 1930's, you can clearly distinguish two different types of the Military Valor Order. Speciffically at the different size of the stars on the 12 o'clock position of the Order(Referred to in Herfurth as T1 and T2)

Now T1 of the military valor order has 3 assay stamps and no mint mark, nor a serial number

The reverse of type 2 has no assay stamps but a mintmark and serial number.
Now coming back to the Civil Valor Order, which was also instituted in 1926, we can probably assume that the earlier orders (T1?) had assay stamps and later orders (T2?) mintmarks and serial numbers. I know "assuming" is always dangerous, but it would seem logical. Jan |

The one on the left is the first type and the one on the right is the second. Rusty.

Guys,
Mongolian Orders were also made in Ulan Bator and at the Hungarian mint in Budapest so minor differences are bound to occur. Also if you use the example of the Republican Red banners they were also made in several small factorys/Workshops and show a lot of various small changes to the Orders, however they are not called fakes. According to Herfurth the awards from Moscow and Leningrad Mints can be identified through their design and Occasionally, by the stamp of the mint. Eddie.

Maybe no one would ever recognize it as a legit piece, but this general was wearing one. Anyway I never had a real, nor fake for that matter, Military/Civil valor order in my hands, so I will refrain from any judgement on their authenticity. It is great fun though to speculate on the origins of these, unfortunaly, way too expensive orders (for my budget anyway).
