Lomidze, Anzor Georgievich, Major, Anti-Aircraft Artillery/Tank Commander

Here is a small group to Major Anzor Georgievich Lomidze (Анзор Георгиевич Ломидзе) or Anzori Giorgis-dze Lomidze (ანზორი გიორგის ძე ლომიძე).

Although Anzori served both the Soviet Union and Republic Of Georgia for over 40 years this group seems to be complete. The lack of Long Service and certain Jubilee Medals coupled with not being promoted above the rank of Major may indicate that he wasn't the most disciplined of officers.

The first document is from the Head Office Of Labour Reserves Under Soviet Ministries Of The U.S.S.R. where he took a course in Tbilisi as an Assembly Fitter from 1st November 1956 to 15th September 1957. Scoring only mediocre results.

His 8th September 1965 awarded Jubilee Medal "20 Years Of Victory In The Great Patriotic War" signed by Commander of Military Unit 61186 Guards Colonel Tereshenko whilst serving as a Lieutenant.

His 23rd February 1968 awarded Jubilee Medal "50 Years Of The Armed Forces Of The U.S.S.R." signed again by Commander of Military Unit 61186 Guards Colonel Tereshenko now serving as a Senior Lieutenant.

A 29th October 1968 awarded Diploma celebrating 50 years of the armed forces. Awarded by Commander of Military Unit 58550 Guards Major General Kazantsev. Lomidze now has the Guards rank prefix.

Next we have his Communist Party Membership. Issued on 26th March 1974 and showing membership from August 1962 until June 1991 (2 whole months after Georgia declared independence).

The booklet is issued by the Political Office of Military Unit 04436. He is also seen wearing Artillery Captain insignia.

Here is his 6th April 1978 awarded Jubilee Medal "60 Years Of The Armed Forces Of The U.S.S.R." by the Military Commissar of Hobi Region, GSSR Lieutenant Colonel Chinchilakashvili.

His 5th July 1979 issued Driving Licence and insert. Showing place of birth as Borzhomi.

His 21st December 1981 issued Hunting Licence with the rank of Major.

His 6th June 1984 issued Military Identification authorised by Military Commissar Of The Georgian SSR Major-General Maramenidze.

His 22nd February 1985 issued Medal "Veteran Of The Armed Forces Of The U.S.S.R." by Lieutenant Colonel Kimeridze of Hobi Regional Military Commissariat after Prikaz #21 on the Ministry Of Defence Of The U.S.S.R, on 23rd January 1985.

His 5th March 1987 issued Pension Document showing him being entitled to 179 Rubles 80 Kopeks a month for 29 years service starting 29th January 1987.

The greatest insight into his military career is his Communist Party Membership.

Originally filled in in 1974 it was updated until 1991.

He was in the VKLSM from 1951 until 1962.

His late father was a farmer, his mother a housewife.
He graduated from the 11th Class in Ahaldaba in 1956.

He was awarded 3 Medal plus 70 and 80 Years Of The Armed Forces, if this was completed in 1991 it would indicate a "complete" group of 5 Medals.

The reason why he does not wear any awards in any of his portraits may be to hide the fact he hasn't been awarded certain awards he would be expected to (Long Service and Jubilees). I have known others to avoid advertising they have not been awarded "good service" awards by not even wearing a ribbon bar at formal events.
