RocketScientist,
That's more like it! Although in this case, it is a 1960's issue. Marc |

Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals
Just before I slam a negative feedback on the seller of this medal, who stated it is an orginal Budapest, I want to cross check a couple of things:
1. The medal recalled from the archives by EricFG, which is definitely identical to mine, was confirmed as original. Is there any difference I am not able to see, or are they both fakes (or original, maybe)?:D 2. I have found this Vienna, a version which appears as much hyperdetailed as my Budapest, and it is surely original. Is it a known variation (maybe recent)? Could it justify the hyperdtailed Budapest medals, which btw are not uncommon on certain auctions websites? Thanks for your help, but I am not used to leave negative feedbacks:thumbsdown and I want to be double sure that the guy really deserves it. cheers |

RocketScientist,

Our members have clearly stated that they feel the "hyperdetailed" Budapest medal is a fake. The fact that it is widely available on some auction sites does not make it any more genuine, on the contrary!!! Now, you requested opinions about the medal, and you got them. If they do not suit you, simply disregard them, but please, do not ask us over and over again to change our opinion regarding a fake medal. Marc |

How about some patience and posting #'s for reference?
The medal in post #64 looks like a 60's-80's issue, and actually seems alright to me (although I don't have such a newer Vienna to compare - mine are older).
It would probably be better not to try to mask and crop out the background though, since it makes the edges look rough and a bit odd. How about we just refer to photo references by the posting #? Then maybe we can avoid the image confusion and the subsequent semi-unfriendly posts? It can make a guy feel like there is such a thing as a stupid question when on forum like this there should be no "stupid" questions, just a desire to learn starting with the basics. :( Maybe that combined with a bit of "written" patience from the old guys who know more than most, and we'll be back on track... ;) |

Re: How about some patience and posting #'s for reference?
Guys,
OK, maybe I was a bit "direct" in my answer, and if so, please excuse me I did not intend to ruffle anyone's feathers. Now, to get back to RocketScientist's Budapest medals, the voenkomat issue shown in post 62 is what it should be (if you don't want it, I'll have it); the "hyperdetailed" one shown in posts 52 and 57 is BAD :thumbsdown I explained why in my previous posts and don't believe I need to repeat myself, just scroll a few posts back if you want to read the details again. I actually went back to the archive to check that medal, and sure enough it was me, who OK'd it. I have no idea why. Was I looking at a different post? Ooops! Alexei |
