caps

I always thought that the embroidery for service caps came out in 1982... not sure where i heard that, but it sticks with me. also, i have not seen generals service caps with embvroidery form the 1970's; i have had in quite a few, but they all were 1980's. The regulations might say 1974, but i think in practice it was much later.

Again, I am fairly certain that the cap embroidery for generals was not used until 1980-1981ish, so I would not worry about it lacking that. I think the cap is ok, but get a better shot of the cap cord buttons as they look like they might be for an officer, not a general.

cords

While the cords usually are very close, and maybe th esame, i sometimes find that the officer cords seem to have a bit more of a yellow look to them...might just be my imagination. The buttons are the one concern i'd have though as int he photo they look like officer buttons. Could just be the photo; the rest looks ok; liner, badge, etc.

Ser-g,

That cap has gone between many hands between now and then. Someone along the way changed the cockade to turn it into a General's cap.

cap

I have to day i disagree with marc; the liner is a generals liner, and the peak is very high for an officer. It could have been messed with, and some dealers do add a generals badge to an officers cap, but they tend to not change the liner as far as i know. I am not wild about the cap cords or buttons, but i'd like to see some actual officers caps with that liner and sweatshield to say they were used on both. I am still of the opinion its a generals cap (though it might have been messed with on the cords/buttons).

Doug,

I never said that the liner was changed. I have handled a few officer's caps that were made with silk liner and leather sweatband, the same way a General's cap is made. Now, these do not come by often at all. It seems that some high ranking officers (~polkovnik level) could order custom made caps of better quality than the standard issue, and they had to pay personally for these; similarly, you can find some officer's uniforms made of general's cloth.

Marc,

I do not think i ever said you stated the liner was changed...my point was that i do not think that they are, no matter how many hand they go through (for postwar caps anyway)..also, though there are higher quality officer caps that can be had, i do not know of any with this makers mark and sweatliner / sweatshield, which is found on a good majority of generals caps. Again, in my years of doing this i have never seen an officers cap with this 'generals interior'; if you have, can you post a pic? I do not say this in an accusatory way, but it would be cool to see if some officers could have them made this way.
