I always wanted one of those as well to go with my very small Mongolian collection. That's a nice badge; the mirror reverse I particularly like.
BTW, we have a dedicated Mongolian sub-section here, perhaps you can induce a moderator to move your post there? Might get some better traffic. We do have an expert there; medals73.

I am not an expert but it looks good to me. On the right yellow hill, there is a smear/chip which is a high spot that tends to wear. (Same on lower fold below August.) On the nut on the reverse, the "E" in Moskovskoe is larger and slightly separated - as it should be. The screw looks slightly fat, perhaps a replacement or wore the nut by rough wear. (The later flat reverse has a thicker screw.) But looks like it should

Very nice badge, made during the time when it was a badge rather than a medal. Very good shape considering it's age. I've seen this piece on our favorite auction site and I've dealt with that seller before without problems. Go for it!

Re: Book for early Kalkingol badge

Jens,

I am not too keen on it, but this is just a gut feeling, so I could be way off.

Re: Halhingol badge

Here are a pair of Halhingol veterans in more recent times. The first is Vladimir Vasil'evich Smirnov photographed after the 65th Anniversary Of Victory Over Germany. The second is a pair of elderly Mongolian veterans. The veteran on the right of the Halhingol veteran seems to be a Korean War veteran.

Re: Halhingol Badge

Things are quiet here, so let's add some life.

Screwplate missing, but for the rest in excellent condition and with an original certificate awarded to a Mongolian (Tserenyondon) for taking part in the battle at the river Khalkhin gol in 1939. The badge was awarded in March 17, 1942 and signed (hand signature) by Deputy Commander of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Army Lahgvasuren. Also the document bears the stamp of the Military Ministry. This is the very first type doc for this award.

The official Mongolian name of this award was (at least prior to 29th December 1966) "Халх Голын Байлдааны Дүрсгалын Тэмдэг" which translates to Halhingol Battle Commemorative Badge. After 29th December 1966 it was officially ""Халх Голын Байлдааны Медалиар" which is "Halhingol Battle Medal".

There are so many conflicting reports on to the status of this in many languages that only using the original Mongolian text can we really get anywhere. So many so called Badges are Medals, Medals are Badges and so on but the original paperwork really helps (unless it is in Bichig which is another thing all together).

This Type 1 may not be in perfect condition (a few knocks and missing screwplate) but the price was. I was given this by a contact in Ulaanbaatar a few years ago. When I received it the reverse was absolutely caked in greasy black tar which has helped preserve it so well and we can see so now it has been wiped off.
