I was not sure what thread to post this on but I do believe that they did work for the war effort.

The text concerns a 275 years anniversary

Below it you will find a badge for 220 years that I found today.

Issued In 1945.

It is solid silver and is numbered 332.

I believe it was issue for a professor of note who worked there during the war.

I think it is a very rare badge

This year Russian Academy of Sciences (1) celebrates its 275-th anniversary. It was established in St. Petersburg by the decision of Peter the Great, implemented in the Senate decree of 22 January 1724. This was was an important element of the country's profound modernization. The quest for fostering industry, communications and commerce, for high cultural standards, for strengthening of the geopolitical standing of the Russian state determined development of science and education. Peter the Great wanted to develop European culture in Russia. His vision of Academy of Sciences was an educational as well as scholarly institution; for this purpose, a university and a gymnasium were established under Academy auspice. The Academy was to serve as a chief scientific and technological advisor for the government.

During the World War II Academy of Sciences focused its efforts on improving in every possible way the country's defence potential. Researchers were engaged in works on new weapons, developing defence industry, exploring new resources, designing new methods of wounds treatment. At the same time, their fundamental studies led to significant achievements in such fields as theoretical physics, astrophysics, chemistry, geology.
