Four Orders of the Red Banner was very common for higher officers. Many colonels and generals had that much Orders of the Red Banner. Marshal of the Soviet Union Rokossovsky even had six of them.

That is not the point - if you look closer, there is the small loop on all his Red Banner awards, indicating they were reverse converted, from suspensions to screwbacks.

Were there justice officers attached to Guards units (yes, because only those actually in a Guards unit could wear the badge?)?

boards

The col. of Justice (r) wears the wide boards, showing he worked his way up to that rank through the military. During the war there were appointed civilians to non-combat branches like medical and justice. To show that they were appointed they had to wear the narrow boards. I think this guy with his wide boards is a career officer.

Did they have narrow boards with the M58 and M69 uniforms?

Also, did the narrow-board-signifying appointment also apply to intendence troops? Or did that only apply to med/legal/vet folks?

boards

I have never seen narrow boards for supply troops; i do not think they had them, I think it was just the highly educated 'non combat' guys; and I only know of them on the M43 uniforms. -dd

Wow!!! They do looks like suspension type pieces converted to screwbacks! I have seen RBs on the suspension with added screwposts to prevent them from swinging, I suppose, but I've never seen them worn like this. Curious!

As for the Colonel of Military Justice. Just a wild idea - lawyer before WWII -> brave Regiment Commander during WWII -> back to his former occupation. The picture is from 1973, so anything is possible.

M1945 VP Uniform Shot of Colonel General of Artillery Nedelin

To all:

One of the nicer photographs I've ever seen of him in his VP uniform. It was taken in 1950.

Ultra Rare M1945 VP Uniform for a Medical Corps G.O.

To all:

A very nice example of the ultra rare M1945 VP uniform for medical corps general officers. Note the smaller width shoulder boards as well as the fact that the collar and cuff embroidery is done in silver bullion thread. Depicted is Major General I.I. Savitskiy.

Regards,
