Interesting to see, that veterans switched the suspension device of several medals to the common 5 sided suspension device.

Look at the picture below: next to the medal for victory over Japan there is the 100 years of Lenin birth medal, on a 5 sided suspension device.

Also look that this veteran have some "Umalatova" medals (such as the admiral Kuznetsov medal).

What is the significance of the St. George-style sash on the cap and worn as a ribbon on the uniform? also, the color of the changed 100 years for Lenin ribbon appears correct for that award. Either this is considered O.K. to do, or someone is offering these to vets on the side.

The St. George pattern cap ribbon is used for naval units that were awarded the Guards Designation. The photo also shows that this sailor is wearing the naval guards badge as well (the St George pattern ribbon in metal frame).

For what its worth, you could get replacement lengths of the ribbbon for the 100th Anniversary of Lenin's Birth in Moscow about 10 years ago. I thought it odd that this ribbon would be sold like this. Its conjecture on my part, but I would imagine that the ex sailor probably decided to replace the ribbon on his medal, and, it is easier to wrap it on the 5-sided ribbon back-plate than to try to affix to the proper frame.

I just finished reading the thread about the 5-sided versions of the 100th Jubilee of Lenin's Birth medal. My question is ... why bother??? According to the regulation, this medal was to be worn in the same spot reserved for the HSU or HSL medal, absent either of those awards. And if either Hero medal was present, the 100th Jubilee Medal still supposed to be placed in a place of precedence above all the other medals and suspended orders. Some photos of Heros show the medal on the left lapel, for example. Am I wrong?

It's a Lenin Centenary Medal that has been modified. This medal was awarded with the small rectangular suspension. Someone has put the correct ribbon on a standard pentagonal suspension. Apparently, veterans have been doing this since the mid or late 1990s.

Submitted below is an image of a Jubilee Medal for the 100th Anniversary of Lenin's Birth, variation 3, with what appears is an original presentation box.

For those who may not know, the variation 3 is the rarest of the 3 variations for this award. McDaniel says that approximately 5000 were awarded, and gives it a rarity of R4. This variation was awarded to foreigners, which may account for the fancy box.

A friend of mine purchased this in a new shop located in Lausanne (the biggest city near Geneva) for .225 Swiss Francs (approximately $160.00!). The dealer specializes in old coins and imperial decorations (those near Lausanne may want to look for it)

Any discussion on the box would be appreciated.
