Mongolian Orders/Medals Types & Variations

OK you got me sold. Another country added to my collecting hobby (boy will my wife like that ot what!!).

Personal observation here...

Be careful with some multi-piece (riveted) Mongolian awards! I have observed and purchased one that has the medallion broken and superglue'd on.

It usually detracts from the overall appearance and its price!

Other than that, they are nice pieces and you can't beat the prices.

Just for the sake of keeping this consistent, here's what I was referring to.

This is an Order of the Polar Star that I purchased on eBay. I paid full price and bought it as-is.

I am not the only one who owns/seen these...

Is it a design flaw or it was broken by the owner and glued.

From what I can figure out, the problem is in the diameter of the rivets.

You can't get it fixed at a jeweller perhaps?

We are talking about a piece that I paid $50 for. How much do you think a jeweler would charge me to repair it? I'm sure it will be more than $50!!!

Besides, it's a nice conversation piece that shows how the orders are assembled and enamel application.

I've been collecting Mongolian Orders and Medals for some time now.
What makes you say that these Awards are cheap, as I've seen in some posts?!
I'd like to know who your suppliers are because I really don't agree with that, specially if compared with most common Soviet Medals and Orders...
And I don't even talk about the high end/quite rare Awards...

Just one example: you can still buy a Order of Lenine, T5/T6 for about $560/$600.00. The similar Mongolian Award is as you know the Order of Suche-Bator. Not only these pieces are far more difficult to find than a Lenine, but you don't find them for less than around $1.000.

As for the intermediate level Orders: I payed during this last year for all my Soviet Red Banners between $35.00 and $85.00.
For my Mongolian Red Combat Banners I payed between $140.00 and $250.00.

As for some more common Orders: for example the Soviet Maternal Glory Orders: I payed mine between $15.00 and $35.00. For the equivalent Mongolian Orders, the Mother Heroine, I payed about the same, depending on the Class, Type, Variation and sub-variation.

As for the common Medals: easy to find many Soviet Medals starting at $5.00/$6.00.
The more common Mongolian Medals start rather on the $10.00 range.
To give you a more precise example: I recently payed $65.00 for a Soviet Medal of Combat Service T1V3.
On the other hand I payed about $100.00 for a T1V1 Mongolian Medal for Combat Merit (or Service).

Even for the common Badges, differences on prices can be of the same kind as for the examples mentioned above.

Now, for the real rare high end Mongolian pieces: just check the site of that well known NJ dealer: Mongolian pieces can go from around $4.000.00+ to $9.000.00 ...

Another remark: there are much more Variations/sub-variations of many Mongolian Ordersw and Medals than those listed on Herfurth's reference book.
Just take a look at an excellent thread by Jan (vatjan) on the appropriate section of the Forum.

So please, please, please let me know who are your cheap suppliers, I'm really interested.

Just my two cents...

Happy hunting for the "cheap" Mongolian stuff...
