Here is the Medal "Aleksandr Marinesko 1913-1963". It is unknown who awarded this Medal. The reverse depicts and glorifies "The attack of the century", the worst maritime disaster in history, the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff with the loss of around 9,400 (mainly civilian) lives. A controversial and sometimes divisive event that has often been manipulated.

As someone who has been overboard and in the drink more than once, I can honestly say that in my opinion this is the most tasteless commemorative I have yet encountered. It could probably only be outdone in bad taste by some type of holocaust commemorative celebrating active participation or some type of Medal "For Crimes Against Humanity" (although the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff was not a war crime).

I doubt we will see many people wearing this one.

I wonder if the same organisation also made a Hospital Ship "Armenia" commemorative?
