Re: Translation Help

I can't really understand the position of this "captain 2nd rang" Agarkov.
"Varna" sounds like a port on Baltic, the rest...?
Any help is appreciated.

Re: Translation Help

Bulgaria was occupied by Soviet Forces from September 1944 until October 1948.The "Southern Group Of Forces" and Black Sea Fleet.

Obviously when this document is posted in full (in the correct thread) we'll all be enlightened a bit.

Re: Translation Help

Having difficulty translating/deciphering cursive of the units and signatures on the following documents. Although they all have the same name, the 1947 dated Victory over Germany was issued, I suspect, to another with the same name, Grigoriy Nikitovich Khlestun.

I would suggest that the two are the same but the unit was either renumbered/reorganised or he changed units.

49th Railway Brigade in 1946 and 52nd Railway Battalion in 1947.

The 49-я Эксплуатационная железнодорожная бригада unfortunately leads to no ends but the 52nd Battalion was stationed in Darhan, Mongolia which would link in with moving towards Japan (and back).

Re: Translation Help

Thank you! Interesting he would have received two Victory over Germany medals/documents, but certainly not unheard of, especially with the reorganization/renaming of his unit(s).

Here's your chap - Georgij Nikitovich Hlestun.

Medal "For Combat Merits" and an OPW2'85.

The citation lists his location in September 1945 as the Railway Station at Borzja which isn't a million miles from Darhan (although I wouldn't want to walk it).

Re: Translation Help

"земное обеспечение самолетовождения полка боевых самолетов"

What would be a good way of translating this, and what did they actually do?

From what i can make out on the internet, it seems like a Regiment of combat aircraft that would have patrolled the skies reconnoitering the earth.

This was in 1955 btw.

Re: Translation Help

I think "Ground control" would be the English terminology. Those on the ground offering navigation orders and information to combat aircraft.

Re: Translation Help

I agree. 'Regiment' is in the genitive case, so it's navigational support / ground control for a combat aircraft regiment.
