Re: Translation help
I would go for Military Medical Handbook.
Medicine is too restrictive a word and technically "lekarstvo". |

Re: Translation help
As a medical professional, I'm curious - is there a technical difference between "medicine" in the limited sense like what you ingest or take to cure an illness, and the wider, more general useage as in "military medicine"?
I preferred the term "military medical" because the Russian word and the English word "medical" are both adjectives, whereas "medicine" is a noun. If you were to use the adjectival form, "medicinal" it would lose the Russian connotation in your book title. Stuff I think about in my down time . |

Identification and translation HELP
Let me say again that if it were not for the very kind and generous attitude of this forum that I would be up ..... creek!
This topic is in relation to a pair of medals, photos and documents that were together in a small red box (not shown). There was a small not e in side saying the following: Book Doc + Medals Fighting Ach Mech Soldier Red Army Soldbach I do know that the serial number of the medal matches the one listed in the book that has a red cover, that serial number is 1465148. I think that the medals and the red book and book with star may go together along with the photos. I can be wrong but I dont think the last book goes with the others? Will someone please shed some light on this matter? Thanks! Mark

Re: Identification and translation HELP
Hi Mark,
If the last book you speak about is the third photo you posted, it belongs to the group. It is another military ID (voenny bilet) for the soldier. His name is Viktor (I can't make up the rest of the name) and he was born in 1907. I have no idea about authenticity, but it seems everything go together. :thumbsup |

Re: Identification and translation HELP
Hi Mark,
The first photo shows 3 booklets which are (from left to right):
They all seem to go together - his Red Army book lists him as VUS #114 which is some sort of metal worker. He completed a 3rd grade education and was mobilised at what looks like Staraya Russa Regional Military Commissariat on 23 June 1941. Need better scans to make out more info. On a later page this book may also list the award of his CSM. Simon |
