Fixing a visor hat

I just received a hat from across the pond and the hat is deformed as well as the stitching is missing on one of the sides of the visor.

Any suggestions as to how it can be fixed?

Thank you,

Rusty

Re: Fixing a visor hat

If this is a cheap 1980s EM visor, you can glue the visor back in place. If not, you could re-stitch using a thin needle and re-sew using the small holes that used to hold the visor, and add some glue if needed. Depends on the cap.

To restore the circular shape of the base, place it onto a upside-down bowl or even better a mannequin head. Then leave it like that for a while.

Complain to the seller and ask for a refund. Then buy a new cap from someone who use good packaging :thumbsup

Sadly, it's a 1950's/60's EM visor hat.

I'll contact the seller and see what he wants to do...

Thank you!

Re: Fixing a visor hat

I'd try to re-stitch it without any glue.

I have been amazed how resilient these uniform items are sometimes after being packed into a soft package wad and sent from overseas and still coming out intact. Sorry this one didn't make it intact

Re: Fixing a visor hat

On the internet you can purchase an adjustable hat stretcher for less than $20.
I have used them with excellent results on hats that have become misshapen over time due to poor storage or even shipping. Obviously you do not intend to stretch the hat!

I place the instrument inside if the cap, and adjust it until the tension is sufficient to restore the cap to it's original shape. Then I place it on a stack of books so that the visor is not taking the weight of the cap. After a week, remove the stretcher. If it hasn't fully corrected itself, re-insert the instrument and give it a little longer.

I have been extremely pleased with the results I have attained.

Re: Fixing a visor hat

Yup - you want a "block" for re-shaping the cap.
