Extra-military badges quiz
I thought I had finished posting this one already, but here's the question:
Which of the following badges could be worn on the Soviet Union military uniform, especially during WWII? Thanks in advance, Phillip

Re: Extra-military badges quiz
None, with the possible exception of the lower-left Comsomol badge. The organization went through some "rebrandings" and it may being WWII, but I don't think the badge was worn at all on the uniform until after WWII.

Re: Extra-military badges quiz
My guess was lower left as well. I remember seing them in old photos, just can't remember if they were GPW-era photos.

Re: Extra-military badges quiz
Thanks to everyone. I have also seen the upper left VLKSM badge on uniforms for sale and gave some credence to it because there are two versions - pin and screw back and people have referred to the screw backs here as being "military issue."
In any event, very informative. P. Oh, and I know that up to two academy/university grad badges are allowed but according to the last regulations, did they go below every other badge (you know I'm asking about KGB badges here) and order? That's the way I've seen them at least in the 1989 military handbook on Soviet uniforms. Moreover, did anyone wear the prewar Moscow State University badges (10 ribbons) on their uniforms or had that kind of thing not been established in dress code at the time? Thanks in advance because these answers will help me get out of the 1940s-50s on my site and onto the Cold War era which is where I have more info already stored up. Phillip Sorry, I keep forgetting the entire purpose of this thread - can anybody tell me what badges not issued by the Soviet Army/Navy were allowed on the uniform? P.

Re: Extra-military badges quiz
Yes, I've heard the same about the screwback Komsomol badge. And so I had to get one as it's 'military'. But I'm pretty sure that one came well after the GPW.

Re: Extra-military badges quiz
Certainly. I've expanded the scope of my questions to include all of the Soviet era, so any comments are more than welcome.:)

Re: Extra-military badges quiz
I've seen pictures with the moscow-u badge in wear, I can't lay my hands on any at the moment but I can visualize both m43's and m55's with them on the right pocket, basically where you would put your military academy badge. I've also seen wartime photos with the komsomol badge on the lower left pinned to a pocket flap or lapel depending upon the uniform
