Re: Honorary Radioist

Thanks, all.

I guess I'd go with "Honored Broadcaster". Not really "Radio Operator", as it is a civilian not military badge.

Re: Honorary Radioist

As for me, "Radio Operator" is much better translation of the meaning of this badge than "Honored Broadcaster".

Would this term be used for public (hardly "commercial"!) radio broadcasts to the public? It iseems to me to carry military overtones, as some one who operates a radio, rather than a radio station.

Nevertheless . . . .

Radist - can be a person that operates the radio and the radio station.

Re: Honorary Radioist

In civilian terms, Radist - Радйст - can also be translated as Radiotelegraphist... Radio Operator seems Ok to me in the military world...

Re: Honorary Radioist

Guys,

Many civilians were building and operating radio apparatus in the FSU. Most of them were civilians, and a non-negligible part of which were youngsters.

I personally do not see any military connotation to the term "Radio Operator". IMHO, it simply means the very obvious, someone who uses radio equipment, whether civilian or military.
