Short, concrete description of the personal combat feat or merits:

During the fighting on April 27, 1945, aimed at liquidating the surrounded enemy forces near the town of Zesch (Frankfurt an der Oder District), he displayed exceptional bravery and courage. Bravely repelling fierce attacks by the enemy, who was attempting to get out of the encirclement, he allowed the troops to approach to a close distance and then shot them down with his carbine from point-blank range.

When the regiment had launched an offensive toward the enemy positions, he replaced on his own initiative the squad commander who had been put out of action. Skilfully commanding the squad he inflicted heavy losses in manpower upon the enemy. During this battle comrade Savateyev personally killed 12 German soldiers and took 9 enemy soldiers prisoner.

His bravery and courage and the initiatives he displayed in combat contributed to the regiment’s overall success in carrying out its combat mission.

He deserves to be awarded the Order of the Red Star.
