Anyone has an idea on how much Karl Marx Order is worth?

Order of Karl Marx was the highest award of DDR (Communist East Germany).

As you can see - it's done in Soviet style - suspension/ribbon, enamel and nice box.

Order is made of gold (gold standard 333 - I'm not sure how this would translate to Karats system).

No idea on the price...

As far as the gold: 333 refers to the finess, that translates to 33.3% gold content in this order. So, 333 is 8K gold.

Hi gentlemen, the karl marx order is not extremely rare, but I don't know how many were made...no info available 13 years after DDR collapse!

the order has 2 versions, the first at 900/1000th, mint marked, massive gold, is worth a good 1500 euros,
the second version at 333/1000th, for the 80ies, is available at 1000 euros.

A known auction house of Hamburg sometimes sells documented orders of Karl Marx, but they don't do the effort of showing a document picture. But the recipient received too a great document (DIN A4 size)

The Order of Karl Marx (German: Karl-Marx-Orden) was the most important order in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and was endowed with 20,000 marks.

The order was founded on May 5, 1953 on the occasion of Karl Marx's 135th birthday and on the recommendation of the Minister Council. It was granted to individuals, enterprises, organizations, and military groups for exceptional merit in relation to ideology, culture, economy, and other designations. Additionally, individuals from other countries were capable of receiving the order.

The image on the right is a "collectors copy" FAKE!!!! Karl Marx, most if not all the higher GDR awards now have these copies on the market. At least they are described as such and not being sold as originals at the moment.
