Proof at the Voyentorg?

In Britain there has been a scandal in the media about Roger Day who was exposed as a fake after wearing an improbable set of medals.

Roger the Dodger.jpg

When questioned he took to his toes and ran off. The full story, the medals, the wife, the lies and e-bay can be read here;

SAS imposter Roger Day, medals bogus, Earl Shilton, leicestershire

My question concerns Soviet awards, the veteran when he either added to his collection or was simply making a new ribbon bar would order his ribbons from the Voyentorg, would he have to present his award book to show he was eligible?

Don't think in USSR were such kind restrictions for ribbon bars and ribbons. But any official could rise an issues if noticed something strange in awards bar. Then the person would face a lot of trouble.

Re: Proof at the Voyentorg?

That's the thing isn't it, serious penalties could be given for minor infractions throughout the history of the Soviet Union. I doubt if faking it would be a consideration.

Re: Proof at the Voyentorg?

I know only one story a little bit close to your question: the person got 3 years in prison for wearing an Naval Capitan of 2nd rang uniform and pretending to be an actual one.

Re: Proof at the Voyentorg?

Hmm, that is interesting, quite a mild punishment compared to some I've read about. Do you have any more information about this man please? I'm attempting to write a small piece about ribbons to go with my photographic project.
Cheers!

Re: Proof at the Voyentorg?

Well he had no criminal background, good characteristics from factory he used to work etc. Just a cowboy move got in trouble. That is all I remember. late 80s story.

here is the most known story about fake HSU: known as Venya Vaysman if you read russian http://www.aferizm.ru/histiry/his_Waismann.htm. My English not good enough to translate it all, sorry
