Re: This one bothers me...

Your OPW is a 2nd Class. :) There simply is some slightly gold-colored corrosion, but the reverse is definately not gilded and the serial number is way too high for a 1st Class.

Re: This one bothers me...

Thanks Auke!!! I should have noticed the lack of gilding on the reverse and paid more attention to the serial number.:o
I need to get my eyes checked.

:thumbsup:thumbsup Doc

Re: This one bothers me...

The document has a most interesting Soviet-feminist, hyphenated last name. I don't remember seeing anything like that before.

Re: This one bothers me...

Hello Paul,
I noticed that, too. Strange... I still feel like an IDIOT for missing the two glaring details. That's twice now!!

It is possible. Some women after the marrige would like to keep their maden name. However, the husband wants her to have his last name.
In some families they find a solution - the wife keeps both names (hyphenated). I knew few.:D

Eric
I'm aware the practice is widespread - I meant I don't remember seeing this on a Soviet award document.

OPW2 type 2 - 'Small' variation

This is my newest OPW2 type 2, the 'Small' variation. According to Soviet-Screwbacks.com the Small OPW2s were produced in two batches in the Leningrad Mint:

~ 479,981 - ~ 482,172 (~ 2,191 pieces)
~ 580,008 - ~ 617,896 (~ 37,888 pieces, with ~ 13,789 Concaves in between)
----------------------
Total: ~ 26,290 pieces

The one below (#482,172) also has a nice brass hammer and sickle. Unfortunately the enamel on the lower two arms is replaced. On the third scan it is next to its bigger brother.

Re: OPW2 type 2 - 'Small' variation

That's interesting. I've never seen that variation before.
Thanks for the comparison.

Order of the Patriotic War

I think these are wonderful. The detail and structure are amazing. I have two sets of the gold and silver.
