Due so explaining all the KGB general caps in collections.
The guards at Lenin's Tomb had General caps -from the 80's till 1993- but without the embroiderings on the visor and the band.
Just the normal officers parade badge was worn on the band on from 1987 on the specific insgnia on the crown.

Thanks OKP for your information, i meant we all have been having doubts and discussions about General caps of KGB.

We all agree there are some caps that are of original legit construction. But have never found a purpose for them, if captains of honor guard wore general caps this would explain the use of KGB guard caps.

Ser-g,

Sorry, but I have never agreed with this theory. All actual evidence points to the opposite.

Marc maybe i have put it wrong.
I ment to say there are caps that are exacly made like a generals cap aside from color you coulnt tell a army generals cap apart from KGB in that case.
How ever thease caps are rare and there is no agreement about its purpose and or if they were made for KGB generals to be used.

Ser-g,

Go back to some of the threads about those "KGB General Caps" and you'll see that, even though they may be built in a similar way to genuine ones (by the way, isn't it what fakes attempt to do???), no KGB general ever wore one of them. If you check with "the guys that should know" (that is the Museum of the History of the Russian Political Police in StP and the KGB Museum in Moscow), they'll tell you quite unambiguously that KGB generals didn't wear dark-blue piped uniforms.

Genuine dark-blue piped uniforms exist, but are NOT related to the KGB; they were MVD uniforms.

Marc

Marc....
Can you clarify that a bit?
Are you stating that the MVD wore a dress uniform in the Tsarist green color that was blue piped? I've not heard that before.

Also....

Is it possible to post the cap badges worn by the individuals who were assigned to the Kremlin Regiment both Soviet era and post-Soviet? Here is a thread where I'm trying to get this information in one place:
Honor Guard Badge (such as the one posted at the top of this thread) and Soviet and post-Soviet "Kremlin Guard Regiment" badge.

Here is one (with metal crown insignia) worn by a captain, group of soviet forces in Germany.
The officer is Senior-Lieutenant Grichin, commander of the 1st Motor Rifle Company/43rd Special Regiment assigned to the Guard and Security of the staff for the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany. The pic is from 1990 or 91.
As a future Captain he then served at the Moscow Komendatura in 1993.
