Red Star,1780094,Head Of Staff,15th Cavalry Regiment,6th Mongolian Cavalry Division

According to the Strekalov's book, as of January 1, 1971 there were only 116 Red Star awardings to Mongolians. I am hoping to get a complete list of the names and serial numbers :)

Awarded to Captain Chimidarabdan Samdan, Chief of Staff, 15th Cavalry Regiment, 6th Mongolian Cavalry Division.

During the 5th Cavalry Division operation to cross the "Chaokhe" river (obviously, the name is incorrect, so more research is needed) he displayed exemplary courage and self sacrifice saving two drowning Tsiriks (Mongolian privates). As a Chief of Staff he contributes significantly to the success of the combat missions.

Edict from July 7, 1946.

re: Red Star,to Mongolian,1780094

I got the info while translating the docs. Also, I think it is of big interest a piece of this prikaz. I will report it here for everyone (Something tells me, you already have it Alexei! :thumbsup). As you can see these two RS are pretty close in the list of the awards. but not exactly consecutive

Also RS 1780032 to another Mongolia, Demchin Baldan, lieutenant, Squadron Commander, 14th Cavalry Reg. 5th Cavalry Div.

Re: Red Star,to Mongolian,1780094

It could be consecutive, but it depends on how they did this. Literally, they could have lined these guys up by rank, alphabetical order, unit (down to company, etc), (or even height like in a parade! :) ) and then pulled awards from a box, pinned to chest, and moved on down the line. Then they could go back and straighten out the actual s/n number assignments on paper. From my viewpoint as a veteran, I can easily see this sort of thing happening. Some unit clerk out there was being efficient in his own way, and now we can try to guess what that way was. :)

Interesting upgrade Alexei. It went straight from CSM, past the Bravery Medal and Order of Glory III and straight to a red Star. Does the action warrant such an upgrade compared to the year of the action?

Brendan, I am not sure. I don't have enough information yet, but I beleive that for foreigners they did not always follow the rules.

BTW, I now have a complete list of all RSs in the 17800XX range - most of them were awarded to Mongolians, but there are gaps.

Alexei
