Which is the right cockade for this cap?
Hello all-
I picked up this streetcar worker's cap a few months ago. I know the bottom cockade is incorrect, but I haven't had any luck at all finding the right one. I know I'm looking for a crossed hammer and wrench pin, but how can I avoid buying *another* pin meant for the collar or shoulder boards? They all look so similar. For that matter, where do you all turn when looking for a specific cockade or other item? Being in the USA, I'm sort of limited to e, but as you know it's not always the best way to go. There must be a middle ground between sifting through the fakes on e and arguing over inflated prices at gun shows! Just some thoughts. Thanks for your time! |

Re: Which is the right cockade for this cap?
Ask some of the forum members here for help. :D Tretov for example knows how to get certain objects and I have had quite a bit of help from many a couple forum members with these small annoying items which are needed to complete a nice cap such as this...unfortunately I cannot, but sometimes E doesn't suck and you can actually find something decent, I say this mainly because the odd chance I get I manage to snag a good buy. :) So keep your eyes peeled.

Thanks for the encouragement! I figured I'd get more help by posing a question to a diverse group, rather than just searching by myself.
And, you're right. E can often yield good finds. I found most of my caps on there and the majority were authentic and correct when I won them. If not, it's usually a simple cockade or chinstrap swap. Every now and then, they like to make us work for it though! :D |

Re: Which is the right cockade for this cap?
i guess it will be hard to find this particular badge since it was only used by this service.
a older railway badge would the same i guess, but i cant be sure. the pictures are of a collar badge on the left and a cap badge on the right. i have always doubted the authenticity of the cap badge. because of how the wire thingy is attached and the color is silver. hope this helps for you. i once got this cap badge on a cap it did not belong. |

Hi,
if you look far down on this page: Under the Red Star - Other Ministry Caps you will find the same cap with lower badge crossed hammer and wrench :) |

Re: Which is the right cockade for this cap?
Okay, thanks. That gives me a good idea as to what I need. Finding it will be the hard part, though I'm often surprised by some of the oddball things that turn up.
Thanks for the help! |
