Greg,

The best fakes currently come from the Baltic states and apparently from Ukraine. Belarus has no known (at least to me!) high-quality production facilities.

Here is the Badge "60th Anniversary Of Victory" an although constructed from cheap alloys it is one of my very favourite "Soviet" style pieces. If it were to have been produced at Moscow or "Leningrad" Mint from Silver it would be one of the finest awards out there.

No no no! In Belarus there are some superb fakers. SENS make badges for the Belarusian government, amongst them soviet type badge (have a look at SENS.By) and of course Schuster is another. These are the tip of the iceberg, Soviet nostalgia is positively encouraged in Belarus and they manufacture high quality goods for the reenactment market.

Another closeup. I do wish the commander pictured on the badge (supposedly Jr. Politruk Eremenko) was better rendered. This was better done on the Umalatova "60 Years of Victory" medal.
