Red Army Soldier Korshunov was part of a command of scouts, that were ordered to scout for a place to construct a bridge over the river Dajme in the region of Gross-Shlajze.
Morning of 24th January 1945 the enemy was on the opposite bank. His gunners and machine gunners fired on both banks and the river.
En Route, the efforts of the enemy machine-gun and mortar fire forced the scouts to remain on the bank at a distance of 400 metres moving only on their bellies.
At this time the senior scout of the team was heavily wounded by a bullet in the leg. Red Army Soldier Korshunov noticing the absence of the commander quickly returned back on his belly and found him seriously wounded. Gave him first aid and without waiting for the arrival of help from other scouts, on his belly, took charge of the squad commander, bringing him out of the intensive fire zone and then placing him into the location of subunits.
Refusing to rest Red Army Soldier Korshunov again returned to the location of the scouts, leading them under systematic machine-gun fire from the enemy side.
All the necessary intelligence data was delivered on time.
For showing courage and bravery and selflessness during an engineering scout for the place to build a bridge I petition for the award of the Order "Red Star".

I believe that "Gross-Shlajze" is "Groß-Schloss" which would be Labiau Castle, East Prussia on the Daime River (Now Polessk, Kaliningrad Oblast).

As can be seen, there is no cover on the east side of the river.
