Lieutenant General of Aviation Field Uniform

I recently purchased a lieutenant general of aviation field uniform. I am interested in finding what, if anything I could add to finish it out. Also, please offer some suggestions as to how I might display my uniform. The ribbon bar is held on by double-sided cloth tape since I did not want to harm the fabric. There is also one small hole where a screw-back medal had been above the ribbon bar; any suggestions as to what it might have been?

Also, I was thinking of selling the uniform eventually and was curious as to the value of it? I do also have the appropriate leather boots and everything is in excellent condition except for a few small holes in the pants.

I am glad to have found these forums.

Nice tunic

Value is hard to say...whatever folks are paying for such at the moment. Could be $50. Could be $250. The hole above the ribbon bar would for a hero star. such would be worn even on a field tunic. Real ones are viciously expensive but reasonable copies can be had from a variety of dealers and periodically on auction. It would look nice on a torso maniquen or on a full size figure although you may have to wreck your boots to get them on rigid feet. A nice general's belt with cross strap would go with that, especially if you found one with the buckle in a subdued green. Have fun and welcome to the forumn

The ribbon bar is a mess and most likely not original but rather something made up.

Snobok,

You need to find a general's leather field belt with cross strap, and your uniform will be complete.

As to the ribbon bar, these were sewn on the uniform. I agree with Tretov that the ribbon bar is most likely made up.

Yeah, I was pretty sure that the ribbon bar was just made up. It originally came with a 12-piece pin-on ribbon bar which I still have. Both seem to have been just made up; I actually bought the ribbon bar that is on the uniform since I did not feel that 12 ribbons befitted a general. I'll post a picture of the original bar that the uniform came with.

As to the field belt, where might I find one? Where might I also procure a good quality copy of the Hero Star? I have a copy of it, but it is a very poorly made copy made of tin. Any suggestions of good dealers would be appreciated; I got the copy off of flea-bay and would like to avoid it. Frankly, I am surprised that one would wear a Hero's star on a field uniform; such an award spells target to me, even if the field uniform were to be only used at headquarters.

Display-wise, I'll have to look around; maniquens are great, but cost money that I need for a couple of trips this summer. I might jury-rig something, but a maniquen would look much better. I'll explore displaying it after I get a job (jobless high school senior here); my current class load prevents me from having the time needed for a job.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions thus far.

hi snobok,

welcome to the forum! i agree with the comments the others have made; the ribbons are a nice show set but not original. A belt with cross-strap would make it look more complete.

A note on photos though; please just post the photos direct to the site and do not post photos where there is an external link, thanks. If you can upload the photos soon I will just leave up the links for a bit; if not, i'll try to do it from home. Either way the links will have to be edited out shortly.

In the closing decades of the USSR not all generals had impressive ribbon bars, I suppose because the WW2 vets were out of the military, and the USSR wasn't involved (officially) in many hot wars after WW2. So, the ribbon bar it came with might be original. See photo by DougD:

BTW, welcome too :thumbsup

Nice uniform in deed! :thumbsup but could you post a better scan of the Academy badge? As far as I can see, I don't like it very much...

BTW, the Guard badge is inappropriate on this service tunic no?

Thanks, I will change the photos when I get home today. My apologies for any touble.

I'll try to get a better pic of the academy badge tonight after I get done with my homework. Also, I am pretty sure that the guards badge is wrong; what would be appropriate to replace it? Academy badge-wise, I do have an extra academy badge that might be more suitable for this uniform.

Hi Snobok,

No problem, I went ahead and took care of your images for you. You might want to read FAQ articles on image posting. They explain in better detail why this forum has the rule regarding images.
