20th Anniversary Of 105 Award Watch.
Here is another DPRK award watch. This one is also made by a Chinese manufacturer but this one is the Peacock (Kong Que) brand of the Liaoning Watch Company in Dandong City. It has an automatic movement and keeps good time. A very different watch to the "60th Anniversary Of The KPA" watch.
As this watch was most likely made between 1985 and 1995 it is not completely clear what "105" is. The 105th Tank Division was founded in 1948 and upgraded in status in 1950 so it is neither of those events. The Ryunyong Hotel is also "105" but that was only started on in 1987 and is not yet complete. It could be a collectivised farm, power plant or factory but I think it may most likely be for 20 years service in the 105th Tank Division. It is certainly "chunky" enough and with a strap long enough to be worn over a uniformed Korean wrist.

I nearly forgot to mention that I found some watches given to So Man Sul, and presented as something that had been awarded from the Government. There's certainly more watches out there!

As Spock would say, "Fascinating". However, being useful, these watches may still being, well, USED?

Re: 20th Anniversary Of 105 Award Watch.
I've probably misunderstood, but the watches I've seen, the old ones, have been produced in China.
You can base anything on a Quartz movement, and as long as no fabrication error occurs, you've got a clock that'll work like a charm forever, for about 5 USD worth of "tech". So I assume that these clocks work as a clock! lol But I don't think there's anything extremely negative about them. Not the heaviest gold-watches of course, but they work, and some got a bit of a fancy design. I've met people from the DPRK which had clocks bought from a company in the DPRK that made stylish, heavy, gold clocks with proper mechanical movements, believe it or not. Haha |

Re: 20th Anniversary Of 105 Award Watch.
what surprises me most of all is not the watches but the medal for 20 chongryon.... So not just to folks in Japan.
All the watches are manual... no batteries!

Re: 20th Anniversary Of 105 Award Watch.
Well, he died in Tokyo and was the chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the pro-Pyongyang General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, Chongryon, as well as a member of Supreme People's Assembly.
Manual watches are good to have sometimes. Depends on how good the mechanics is, and how long between each wind. |

Re: 20th Anniversary Of 105 Award Watch.
It is nice to see that the award watches are held in just as high esteem as Orders.
I still wonder how many different award watches there are and how many Chongryon Medals are out there.
