I got it for $40.00 .
The GREAT dissapointment is that the numbers of the orders are not mentioned. So, if you have an order of glory with no document and no name of awardee - the book will not help:( Last edited by Tal Inbar; 05-21-2002 at 11:16 PM. |

Art,
Actually the book is very interesting, if you can read Russian, or have someone who can translate for you. It contains a photo of each holder, plus info on how they got each class. You can flick through the book, pick an interesting photo and read about that particular person. For $40 the book is a steal. I paid considerable more for this book, but it was well worth it. I was, however, disappointed not to see the serial numbers. I'm still waiting for my set of Hero books to arrive. Do these contain the serial numbers? Kind Regards, Shane Cook. |

I concur with Shane- the book is a steal for $40- I think I paid $70 for mine and am quite happy with it!
Neither this book or the Hero books have the award numbers. I believe that both these books were written prior to the whole 'advent' of people wanting to trace a particular number to a particular person, so that wasn't given much of a thought. I don't know of a list of Hero numbers (since there were 11,000 awarded, that's quite a few!) but I do know there are a few collectors with the list of numbers of the Glory 1sts. Paul McDaniel, for one, has this list. It's a dream of mine to create Al Gleim-type books with the names of the recipients for awards such as the Hero, Glory 1st, Kutuzov, Suvorov, etc, but until I win the lotto, I think that's going to remain a dream... --Dave |

I noticed that a copy of this book is currently being sold on Ebay, if anyone's into sets of the Orders of Glory.
Kind Regards, Shane Cook. |

All,
I'm a little late posting to this thread so I hope this is still important to you. Despite the lack of serial numbers in both sets of books (Glory and HSU), I find them to be among my most important reference books. They are very well done and have a lot of infomration. $40 for the Glory book is a great price as I paid about $70 for mine. The Hero books have come down in price but are still in the $200 range for the two volume set. There are serial number lists for the Glory 1st and HSU. I have the list for the Glory 1st and Paul has both. We both charge a fee to supply the infomration as we paid a lot of money for the lists, but this really helps when trying to decide about dropping several thousand dollars on an undocumented piece. I hope this helps, Ed |

Does anyone know by who, or why these books were written, and what information they draw from. Were they commissioned by the state for archive purposes? Why was one never produced for the HSL, or the cavaliers of labour glory, or the holders of the highest soviet orders for instance?
Kind Regards, Shane Cook. |
