Table Medal "2 Years Of The Great October Socialist Revolution".

Ok, if you can't tell. I have had the day off and I have been putting it to good use by scanning a bunch of items for identification and sharing purposes

This will probably be the last one for today. It is a scan of a large unknown table medal. Can't find tape measure but is larger than 60mm and somewhat heavy(bronze?)

Any clues???

Re: Unknown Table Medal??

The medal is the first one listed in COMMEMORATIVE [TABLE] MEDAL OF THE SOVIET PERIOD, 1919-1991 by A. Salykov and A. Shkurko. Here is the picture as it appears in the book and the listing, which I'll leave it to someone else to translate! I hope this helps!

Re: Unknown Table Medal??

Looks like Lenin with Marx behind him.
And that nice chocolate color makes me think bronze as well. What the term for Bronze "patina"; verdegris?

Re: Unknown Table Medal??

The text on the front says:

RUSSIAN SOCIALIST FEDERATIVE SOVIET REPUBLIC PETERSBURG 1919

and on the reverse is "workers of the world unite"

Re: Unknown Table Medal??

Gents,

I cant thank each of you enough for taking the time to help out someone like myself who is less than a novice when it comes to Russian/Soviet militaria.

As said, I am a collector of British medals but always interested in learning what ever I can of other military powers.

As for the medallion, would this be an official issued item or more of a propaganda related item? Also, you are correct with the term "verdegris" as it relates to bronze items. We see it often on WWI British Stars and Victory medals.

Lastly is there any value associated with this medallion?

Cheers,

Mark

Re: Unknown Table Medal??

Mark,
I refer you back to my post #2. This is the very first commemorative [table] medal listed in the book. The medal was minted in 1919. If someone would translate the information to the right of the picture in post #2 we should get more specific information on the medal. Someone should be able to click on the listing and enlarge it to where one with Russian language skills should be able to translate it.

Re: Unknown Table Medal??

Hi Mark,

The table medal is probably reasonably valuable if it is an original. Your pictures in comparison to those from the book seem to show that your medal does not have the same level of detail. whether this is because yours is corroded/worn or a cast copy is hard to tell. Do you trust the source?

Here is a rough translation of the details:

Second anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution

Designer: D. K. Stepanov, die made for LMD by A. V. Kozlv.
Material: copper, silver, tin (?). Basically BRONZE.
Size: 75 mm
Made by LMD - Leningrad Mint.

Versions of inscriptions on the milled edge: 1) punched or engraved (M. D.); 2) punched or engraved (MONETNIY DVOR).

Variants of front face: a) date with a full-stop, inscription divided by 6-beam asterisks; b) date does not have a full-stop, inscription divided by 6-petal-shaped rosettes.

On the basis of some sources, 350 copies were made, others 873 copies (copper), or 200 copies (copper), 10 copies (silver).

Restrikes, made from pinchbeck (Tompak - copper/zinc alloy): version (v) - with the inscription on the reverse: (PREPARED in 1969.) (400 copies), the version (g) (PREPARED in 1977.) (2 005 copies), and without the inscriptions indicated. All restrikes with the full-stop for date.

Silver - 203-238 g.
