Do you have this ID yourself Tal? The reason I ask is that I have this guy's

orderbook
military ID from 1948
dokument for Leningrad 250 years
dokument for capture of Vienna + small extra book for capture
and his writerID

also his red star, medal for military merit, Leningrad 250 and Capture of Vienna

I thought that this group was as close to complete(not counting jubilee medals) as one could get, I guess I was wrong. I will make some scans of the rest of his stuff. For now I only have the ID-pics. Will also find his military record from his military ID.

Here is the lot of Golant’s awards and documents. One of the best things is the box for the Red star, just below it. It has the serial number and name written on it, you can also see the stamp “Red star” on it but very faint. One thing I don’t like is the fact that some stupid ******* has pinned the medals on the document for Leningrad 250 and on the extra Vienna document with Stalin in profile. But there is always something isn’t it…

Last but not least is his war service from his military ID:

Jewish;
Started WW2 in July 1941.

--July 1942 - journalist at 272nd Rifle Dvn. newspaper Editorial Board,
Karelian front;
--June 1943 - translator at HQ of 4th Rifle Corps, Karelian front;
--Feb. 1944 - journalist at 7th Army newspaper Editorial Board, Karelian
front;
--Feb. 1945 - translator at HQ of 9th Guards Army, 3rd Ukrainian front;
--June 1945 - translator at HQ of 9th Guards Army, 2nd Ukrainian front;
He was demobilized from armed forces on 17th May 1946 as translator at HQ of
9th Guards Army.

The chances that something like this happens is so remote I'm not sure it has happened;)

Anyway I have now got one ID and placed bids on the others. But I had forgotten my Ebay password and almost didn't get in... After one try I got it (Ebay isn't one of my main sources if I say so..). So in 6-7 hours we will see if the Golant group is closer to be more complete.

Tal don't worry. I'm sure we can sort out the owning bit. I have some stuff I can trade with.

The "funny" part is that now I probably will pay more for the documents than the cost of whole medal/order group. But it's a small price to pay, I guess. It's the history-bit I find the most rewarding in collecting. And if I didn't get it I know I would regret it.

"Russian 1920-30s officer archive. Includes 2 photos, ID book issued in 1929 to V. Golant and 2 certificate to the same person by NKVD in 1936. The certificates are extremely rare because they cancel court resolution about exile of Goland family from Leningrad to Siberia for 5 years. Also included the ID issued to V. Golant in 1935 as to Editor in Chief of the Soviet propaganda magazine in English Language. The ID is in Russian, German and English. "

I need some help with translation of these papers. As far as I have been told they are certificates that say Golant is allowed to live in Leningrad after exile in Siberia, or Kazakhstan. But I would like to know more in detail what it says. Any help appreciated.

Logically the second document should come before the first.

Second document states that GOLANT VENIAMIN YAKOVLEVICH's complaint about the exile from Leningrad with his family of + 1 person has been looked at by the Assistant Prosecutor of USSR comrade Leplevsky, and has been CANCELLED.

First document states the order to exile GOLANT VENIAMIN YAKOVLEVICH with his family of + 1 person for a period of FIVE years has been cancelled by a special meeting of the NKVD on 7 March 1936. GOLANT VENIAMIN YAKOVLEVICH is thus travelling to Leningrad with his family of + 1 person.


That is generally the sense of these docs.
