Hello and welcome to the forumé

It is a soldier cap that has been upgraded to make it appear a higher rank that does not exist.

Couldn't this be a M55 parade cap?

Yeah, the cap badge is for officer, the laurel leafs on visor are for officer parade M55 (maybe other years as well) and the cap by itself is a late model for enlisted soldier.

I assume that you mean by "the wrong shape" that it is not the "teller" style of hat?

As to the badge, for some reason I was thinking the oval badge was started in 55, not 58. Maya culpa.

I think the same, since I am the owner of the cap of the picture and took it myself. I bought this cap as dembel. After checking the al the forum threads
related to dembel I knew it was. But it is not a tourist cap- those ones are 100% fake.

caps

Its not a dembel cap, its a cap that as been altered( its real in that it was once ok) by a seller to make it sell. I am not sure whom would say its a dembel cap other than the seller.

if it were modified by a soviet conscript it would be dembel, but who modifys the shape of the cap itself? the whole point of dembel is to make the cap look very impressive, and modifying the shape doesnt help that. Thats why I said odds 1 in 1 million.
