Re: New Russian Uniforms!
what is a gorget ??
i may sound stupid after being in the army but i have never heard of a gorget. I must say i love those uniforms ,, they have some thing grand going on there. the last picture the neck plate makes me think of the things we have to wear when on guard duty. |

Re: New Russian Uniforms!
Gorgets are the neckplates. They date back to early days when a metal plate covered the space between the upper edge of the armor breastplate and the chin of your helmet (allowed easy motion while still guarding the throat from a rapier thrust). By the 18th century they were more decorative and used by officers. A pricey third reich artifact is the neck gorget in luminescent paint used by german field police. Well maybe not this particular one but you get the idea

Re: New Russian Uniforms!
Eric,
The boards and gorget are for officers in the Kremlin Guard; the one I posted is an enlisted mans set. Same basic uniform though. DougD |

Re: New Russian Uniforms!
Well, as you can see from the pictures, they are definitely newer and better-looking SKSs with the 5 round magazines.;)

You just don't see that kind of pomp (good context) in very many of the "bigger name" countries. Even France has toned down their uniforms. I think some of the north African coastal countries and maybe certain regiments in India or possibly Indonesia are the only other places I can picture guard uniforms this classy (and the Brits of course). Now I said that I can think of, so don't everybody start making a list of places I "forgot" to mention because I didn't leave anyone out intentionally; I'm just going on memory and semi-educated guesses.:) Phillip

While looking for oldschool uniforms I stumbled across the Papal Guard. :p

Re: New Russian Uniforms!
Right! I think the old Moisin-Nagants were for the recent victory parades. I found many pictures of those.

Now, I really wish I could find it since it came in a plastic tube that I kept it in on a shelf in my closet.:( Considering the detail of the uniform, it's probably worth a nice chunk of change now. Happy Thanksgiving Phillip

Re: New Russian Uniforms!
Does he still retain the old title (MotSU)?
