Colonel Dimit'r Nikolov Mosinov, Liberator/Hero Of The War Against Serbia
Here is a pair to Dimit'r Nikolov Mosinov, an accidental reunite (and there may be more to come!)
Dimit'r Mosinov is the renowned "Captain Mosinov", commander of the First "Fellowship" (Battalion) of the Cavalry Regiment. He personally lead the unit all the way to the deepest advance into Serbia. Mosinov was born on 24th April 1852 (Gregorian calendar) in Tarnovo, Ottoman Empire (Now Greater Tarnovo, Bulgaria) and became a teacher. However he volunteered for service in the Imperial Russian 60th Infantry Zamość Adjutant-General Graf Kotzebue Regiment and served at all four battles for Shipka Pass. He then passed out of Odessa Military Institute on 24th April 1879 as a Second Lieutenant and joined the Eastern Rumelian Militia, being promoted to full Lieutenant on 21st June 1881 and Captain on 14th March 1884. On 7th September 1885 southern Bulgarian Forces were mobilised and Mosinov was put in command of the 3rd Plovdiv Battalion that then became part of the Jambol Brigade on 9th September 1885, which at the comprised of 4 companies totalling 784 men. His battalion became the First Battalion, Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Lower Balkan Corps. Leading the Battalion to victory at the Battle of Pirot (26th-27th November 1885). He pushed all the way to Nišor, where he wrote the battle diary of the Battalion that he reported on 1st December. 1886 did not see such swift victories. He participated in the Coup of 9th August (At what level is not clear but as the commander of a Battalion he will have had some clout) but fled to the Ottoman Empire after the counter-coup, only to return and be reinstated to his position after the abdication of the Knjaz. He then became head of the Stara Zagora Military Okrug before serving in the 17th Infantry Dorostolon (Silistra) Regiment and 18th Infantry Etar Regiment before being dismissed on 5th May 1894 after being promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel on 14th August 1893. He was recommissioned on 10th May 1903, leading him to serve in the rank of Colonel during the Balkan and European wars as leader of a Battalion of the 34th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 5th Infantry Division of the 3rd and later 2nd Army. He died in Sliven in 1942. The first of the pair is his Silver Medal "For The Memory Of The War Against Serbia 1885", showing him as the Commander of the 1st Battalion, Cavalry Regiment and being awarded by the Commander of the 12th Balkan Regiment Captain Nikola Petrov Petrov on 2nd April 1887 (Georgian calender) at Stara Zagora. The second is for a Gold With Enamel "Cross Of Remembrance" (Of The Coronation Of Knjaz Ferdinand I) #566 (of 699) awarded on 4th January 1889 when he was a Major positioned as head of the Stara Zagora Military District (Although they misspelled his name "Musinov")
