Insurance
What do you think about insurance policy regarding the collection?
How the value of awards is set by insurance company? What about authenticity? Tal |

Tal-
I've looked into getting my collection insured several times, but the answer is still the same- you have to get appraisals for each group. Having 30+ groups in my collection, that gets rather expensive! Plus, my collection is always growing, as well as thinning out, so it's hard for me to get new appraisals all the time. If anyone knows of a company that doesn't require appraisals, that would be great... --Dave |

Gentlemen,
I have my collection insured by the Collectables Insurance Agency of Westminster, MD. They do NOT require an appraisal to insure your collection. In fact, my coverage has increased automatically each year to cover the increased value of my collection. I find their rates to be very fair and they have a good reputation. Their history is that they used to insure only stamp collections and then expanded into other collectables so that they have experience in this field. I have had a policy with them for over 4 years, but have never had a claim. I can give you their phone number or web page address if you would like. Just email me. If anyone has had a bad experince with them I would really like to know. Thanks, Ed |

Ed,
Go ahead and post the web address. That way anyone interested can go right to their site. Thanks, Art

I checked out the Collectables Insurance Agency (CIA) and it looks really good- I've submitted an application for insurance on my collection.
Another that I had been looking into was the insurance offered by HW Wood Ltd in England. They likewise do not require an inventory. I'm still going to send off the application and get a quote from them, to see if they are competative with the CIA. Another friend told me that the NRA (National Rifle Assn) will insure militaria collections through their gun insurance policies. I haven't checked that out, but it sounds like a good route also. --Dave |

Does anyone know of any UK companies who offer insurance on medal collections? I imagine they are not covered under my standard household policy. Thanks.
Kind Regards, Shane Cook. |

Question for collectors
Hello
As you know I started collecting not so long ago but was able to build a somewhat valuble little collection. I am ready to make several other nice additions to it shortly. As I was looking at all my items proudly displayed on the wall and realized that I am very attached to the whole consept. Then I started thinking what I would do if I would come home on night and find my collection being stolen ![]() I cant compare myself to ****** but at the same time I dont want to be not carrying enough to say :" Its not gonna happen to me" So, I am looking at different options that I can use to protect my collection. Have you had any experiences like this or have this kind of consearn crossed your mind? Are you using anything to protect your items. What is your strategy? Am I too paranoid? ![]()
