Medal for Distinguished Labor - Duplicate?

It is Type 2 Variation 2 medal, BUT with stamped S/N (2405) and "D" for duplicate. There is no "No." on the back.

Opinions?

I saw this medal, but was wary, because I have never seen a Duplicate for this type...

Guys,

I believe the number is fake - the medal has moderate patina yet there is not a trace of dirt in the stamped digits and "D".

Hi! I know this thread is over 2 years old, sorry about that, but I'm about to buy this particular medal from the current owner. It's been two years, any new thoughts about this one? :) I like the medal a lot but I joined this forum today and just happened to see the same medal that I'm about to buy.
The same medal is mentioned here: http://www.soviet-awards.com/medals4.htm#medal13

Should I cancel the deal or go ahead?

Daax,

Welcome to the forum. I would take Alexei's (Nota Bene) advice and stay away from the piece. How much does the seller want for it?

Hi and thanks!
Well, the price is in swedish kronor but it´s about $130 I guess. I just started to collecting soviet medals and I thought I had some luck and was starting of my "career" with a rarity. Well, its not that much money really and however it's fake or not, it's unusual, right? But on the other hand, I don't want to buy a fake medal. You can use the $130 for much better things then fake medals.
The problem is, as in most of this cases I guess, that I really want it to be real.
Well, I have to think about this. Anyone else that have any idea, seen the medal anywhere else, seen any other duplicate?

The problem with us "collectors" is that our hearts start racing, the blood starts pumping and our vision becomes blurred once we see "something special". :banghead That is not the time to pull your wallet out, but rather to put the piece back down, take a deep breath and THINK, analyse and use common sense.
I would take Alexei's advise, and spent my 130 US on items that are clearly OK.
You'll have lots of opportunities to buy some of the rarer awards, all it takes is time... (and money of course ;) )

Thanks Andreas. McDaniel and Schmidt say they ARE haevily faked. I guess they refer to the 1st Type with Triangular mounting device?
