Russian Federation Marshal Stars

Yes, the Russian Federation has continued the marshal's star tradition.

Nezavisamaya Voennoe Obozrenie recently published an article on intrigues between the leadership of Ministry of Defense and General Staff. The article had several official photos of top leaders wearing marshal stars -- Marshal Nikolayaev (retired from Frontier Guards, now Duma or Federation council deputy) and General of the Army (4 stars on epaulets - equivalent to Marshal of a Branch of Service in Soviet times) Kvashnin, Chief of the General Staff. I found the latter particularly interesting -- Kvashnin was clearly wearing the 4 stars on shoulder board rank and clearly wearing a marshal's star at his neck. Unfortunately, the website has replaced the article with the current edition, and I couldn't access the photo.

stupid question: did they win their star as marshall (normal one, not of the SU) in the last times of the SU or not?

I forgot: an interesting russian link about marshalls of the Su and chief marshalls:http://marshals.narod.ru/enindex.html

Russian era Marshals

Both were awarded their marshal's stars in the Russian Federation era. Marshal Nikolayev was a career army officer whom Yeltsin appointed to lead the Frontier Guard Service. He was appointed Marshal of the Russian Federation upon retirement from the Frontier Guard. General of the Army Kvashnin also received his star recently when he was appointed to 4 star rank.

Current Marshal's Stars

I was able to re-acquire the photo in question. Marshal Nikolayev (right) is wearing the marhal's epaulets and neck star. General of the Army Kvashnin is also wearing a marshal's star, although he is only a General of the Army. Note that both are in variations of full dress/parade dress uniform. Both have the gilt epaulets, and Marshal Nikolayev is wearing all of his awards.

Very nice question...

Hope this subject draw attention...
I wonder, Did any of the old soviet marshals become marshals of the russian federation?
If so please post a pic the man in soviet marshals uniform and in new RF marshals dress.

Interesting question Sovvisor. I can add another question. There was only one retired MSU (Oragkov who died in 1994) who lived into the Russian era. I wonder what he wore on festive occasions?? His old MSU uniform or did he get a Russian Marshal's uniform. Unlike most retirees I believe that MSUs continued to be able to get new uniforms in their retirement.
