Could be that the guy offered it up with the other three that obviously showed signs of being ground dug and I assumed that the fourth one was also. BTW, looking at my ground dug BM, the wear on it is nearly nil when compared to some others I have. The suspension that was attached had been a long time in the ground for sure. I will see what comes back on research.

One additional note. This guy was part of the 322 Rifle Division. This is the same division that liberated Auschwitz in January 1945. cool link

This is a strange one. The citation is not on "the site" although 4 other Kovagins are. There are 3 other Kovagins on the memorial site. It seems like clumsiness and bureaucratic error all over.
