Well,

Some people have to much $$$$$$$ and look at two examples from ebay;

"Order of Stalin' the high bid at the moment is US $48.30 , But the "Veteran internationalist" medal is currently (Take a DEEP breath)........US $51.60!

What is even more bizzare, is the high bidder already bought the SAME medal from the SAME seller for US $12.09 !

And there is more than 24 Hours to the end!

U N B E L I E V A B L E !

SOLD! At the prices above!

Order of Stalin?????!!!!!!!!!!

A week ago I had a chance to purchase a madal, looking similar to Order of Lenin, but the face on the medal was Stalin's, and also the name "Stalin" was written on it. I did not buy that, because I wasn't sure what it was. The guy that offered me this one is native Russian and he usually sells genuine medals.

Any idea what this medal could be? An unofficial new Russian medal? Something banned by Chrushchov?

The medal in question is current Communist Party Order of Stalin. This is unofficial medal issued after the break-up of the USSR and the quality is rather low. It usualy sells on eBay for about $15.

In addition to the Stalin Order, communists issued about 10-15 other medals. They come with the award booklets and are not officual awards of the Russian government.

the price...

Thanks for info. I thought it was something like this, because I have seen other unofficial post1991 medals (e.g. unofficial 100th anniversary of ?ukov different from the official one). But I didn't expect such prices... The guy that wanted to sell me this one (in Poland) wanted 60pln and that is about 14$...

Al-muell,

Welcome to the forum. I think at $14 it's a good price, that is if you collect those Umalatova medals.

Thank You, but I don't collect them. I saw it and was just curious, because (I know it may sound funny) the price is not so low as it seems. Previously for the same price I managed to buy:
Order of Red Star (little damaged)
Set of 3 MVD medals for excellent military service on one base (from the same seller that offered me this "order of stalin")
Parade Uniform of major of military justice (it's not a joke!) without cap.
It is because even year ago most of the soviet madals and militaria were common in Poland (e.g. During WW2 many polish soldiers and pro-soviet partisans were awarded with soviet medals and the Soviet Army stationated in Poland untill 1989)

Thanks again for the info.

Faked fake...

Well, this is something new!

Umalatova "order of Stalin", with Medal for the 100th Anniversary of Lenin's Birth ribbon! And above all, read the seller's words:

"SUPER RARE CP RUSSIAN ORDER OF STALIN - IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. - LAST OF THE RUSSIAN ORDERS - RARELY SEEN - NOTICED SELLING FOR VERY HIGH PRICES ON EBAY USA.

Buy now at todays prices - the exportation of Orders and Medals is now prohibited by law in Russia. This is likely to have several effects - Firstly leading to an eventual shortage of many Soviet items when stock already in other countries disappears into private collections. Also a hardening of prices for examples when available in the future - making these an excellent investment opportunity at the present time. "

Hello

I got one of these late last year. Quality is okay, came with a blank document which seems to be very common. There has been a lot for sale lately.

I only got it because it had Stalin on it, and it is inexpensive. It is not a great collectable and has no real value.

IMHO, these *are* collectable, and when the supply inevitabley dries up the price will go higher.
I say that for a couple reasons. First; the supply will dry up as there were only X number of them minted. Second; as a low-end Soviet medals collector (with a limited budget) I find these quasi-Soviet medals very intriguing. They fit very well with the legit Soviet awards, are of decent quality, can be had cheap and display well.
I have 3 of them so far and am actively looking for the other's that are available.
I say :thumbsup
